Sheri Summers has officially been working with people from around the world for the past 15 years, but she has been interested in other cultures since childhood.  She has been an English teacher, international group coordinator, and student advisor both in Washington State and California. She has also lived and worked in Portugal, South Korea, and Taiwan and has traveled throughout much of Europe and Asia.

Sheri received a degree in International Relations (concentrating on Intercultural Communications) in 1986.  She is proficient in Portuguese, has a working knowledge of Spanish, and dabbles in Korean and French.

From 1996-1999 Sheri created and ran the International Friendship House where she hosted over 30 international students from periods of one month to two years as well as scores of others in need of temporary lodging.  Her natural compassion and understanding put international students and visitors at ease and created an atmosphere of intercultural understanding.

Sheri is a big believer in learning accent and pronunciation for communication. Many years ago she was responsible for a group of students visiting the United States from a non-English speaking country. The group was accompanied by their local high school English teacher. To Sheri’s surprise, she and the teacher could not communicate well by speaking. They found they understood each other best through writing. Since then Sheri has asked students over the years, “What is the purpose of studying another language for many years if you can’t be understood by others?” She thoroughly enjoys working with people and helping them gain confidence in their English speaking skills.

Sheri is passionate about bringing the world together through communication and understanding. In her Sacramento, California company, Accent on Speaking, she teaches small group classes and intensive Boot Camps.  She also offers an online American Accent Workshop that allows anyone in the world to receive accent training.  Her courses help people to not only improve their English pronunciation, but improve their confidence as well.
